About the Manchester Metropolitan University

Manchester Metropolitan University (MMU) is a relatively new university. It was formed in 1970 through the merger of the Manchester College of Art and Design, the John Dalton College of Technology, and the Manchester College of Commerce. Its roots trace back to the Manchester Mechanics Institute, established in 1824.

With over 40,000 students from more than 100 countries, Manchester Met has one of the largest and most diverse student communities in the UK.

It operates across two main campuses: All Saints Campus and Birley Campus, both of which are just south of the city centre outside the A57. There are five main faculties: Arts and Humanities, Business and Law, Education, Health and Community Sciences, and Science and Engineering.

The Complete University Guide 2025 ranked Manchester Metropolitan University 56th out of 130 UK universities. The Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide 2025 placed it at 46th.

MMU also offers excellent career prospects, with over 90% of postgraduates employed or in further study 15 months after graduating.
